Mental Performance in weightlifting: Max Barkman has fallen back in love with his sport
“Mental Performance Coaching has been very helpful. I used to have a lot of anxiety and stress about competing. My head was full of noise and got easily blocked mentally. Through coaching I’ve been able to create a more optimal performance state with less pressure. I’ve learnt to compete by enjoying it, and it’s improved my results too.
I have more clarity and direction within my identity as an athlete. I know myself better and can control my mind. Self-reflection is really important and has allowed me to find sustainable approaches to analyzing performance.
Mirjam knows how to ask the right questions, and that’s the value of having a coach.
Without coaching, you wouldn’t make the same progress. It allows you yo get further, and having a one-on-one coaching process has a completely different impact, than just reading books. It’s important to find the tools that work specifically for you.
It’s good to have regular sessions - so that you’ll have a session in place even when you’re not aware you need it.
This process has been really enjoyable for me, I’ve fallen back in love with my sport. There are no quick fixes, it’s about ongoing learning!”
